What Is a Recovery Friendly Workplace?
A Recovery Friendly Workplace recognizes that employment can play an important role in recovery and that employers can make a meaningful difference.
Recovery Friendly Workplaces work to create environments that:
- Reduce stigma surrounding substance use disorder and recovery.
- Educate leaders and employees about addiction, recovery and available resources.
- Encourage help-seeking by connecting employees with appropriate support.
- Support recovery and retention through thoughtful workplace practices.
- Promote employee wellbeing while maintaining safe, productive workplaces.
Why Become Recovery Friendly?
Substance use and recovery don't stop at the workplace door.
Employers are uniquely positioned to create environments where employees can seek help earlier, remain connected to meaningful employment, and successfully return to work following treatment or during recovery.
Becoming Recovery Friendly can also help organizations strengthen their approach to:
- Employee wellbeing
- Recruitment and retention
- Supervisor and HR preparedness
- Workplace culture
- Stigma reduction
- Community engagement
